A wedding film is mostly a sound problem

Everyone shopping for video looks at the picture. Drone shots, slow motion, the color grade. All of that matters, and we care about it.

But the thing that makes a film worth watching in ten years is almost always the audio. And almost nobody asks about it.

Your vows are the film. So is whatever your dad says at the reception, and the part where your best friend loses it halfway through the toast. Thin audio, clipped audio, wind all over it, and you've got a beautiful video nobody rewatches. Clean audio and you've got the only recording that exists of the two of you saying those words.

So we double up. A small transmitter on the groom or officiant, a separate feed off the sound system when there is one, and a backup recorder as insurance. Your ceremony happens once. There's no second take.

Nobody at your wedding will notice any of it. That's the point.

What you actually get

A sneak peek shortly after the wedding, while it still feels like it just happened. Usually thirty to sixty seconds, cut to share. It's what your friends see before you've finished the thank you cards.

Then the highlight film. Depending on the collection that's two to three minutes, four to six, or six to eight.

Longer isn't better. A tight three minute film with the right vows in it gets watched every anniversary. A twelve minute film gets watched once, politely.

Ceremony coverage runs two to three cameras on the smaller collections and three to four on the larger ones, so you've got the vows from the front, the reaction from the aisle, and a wide holding the whole room. Filming in wine country

Temecula is genuinely good country to film in, and it has a few quirks worth knowing.

The valley is open and agricultural, which makes for strong aerial work. Vine rows have a geometry that reads beautifully from above, and the hills toward Fallbrook give you real depth behind a ceremony.

Wind is the local variable. Afternoon wind comes up through the valley most days, and it's the most common thing that wrecks ceremony audio at an outdoor Temecula wedding. It's why we don't rely on one microphone, and why we might suggest an earlier ceremony time if your venue sits somewhere exposed.

Drone is conditional and we'll be straight with you about it. Airspace, your venue's own rules, and whether the wind is cooperating all decide it. We fly when it's legal and safe. We don't when it isn't, and we'd rather say that now than on the day.

How the day goes from behind the camera

We show up during getting ready, usually the back half, and the first hour is quiet. Details, the room, whoever cries first. Film needs a little more setup than photo does, so if Chris is taping a mic to a lapel while Naomi is already shooting, that's why.

The ceremony gets the most gear and the most redundancy, because it's the one part of the day that can't be repeated. Cameras go in before your guests sit down and they don't move. A videographer walking the aisle mid-vow ends up in every photograph and in your own memory of it.

The reception is looser. Speeches get full audio, the first dance gets covered properly, and after that we're hunting the stuff that makes a film feel like your wedding instead of a template. The uncle who dances badly and doesn't care. The grandmother who stays until the end.

Somewhere in the last ninety minutes of light, we'll ask for fifteen minutes outside. Most of what ends up in your highlight film comes from that window. Protect it on the timeline.

Photo, film, or both

If you can only do one, do photo. It's what goes on your walls and what gets sent to family. We'll tell you that even though we'd rather sell you both.

The case for film is narrower and it's about sound. Photos preserve what your day looked like. A film is the only thing that keeps what people said and how they sounded saying it. Couples who skip video rarely regret it in year one. Some of them regret it in year ten.
